Murphy Statement on EpiPen Pricing

Pittsburgh, PA - Today, Congressman Tim Murphy (R-PA) responded to the recent developments on the price of EpiPen, a life-saving medical device for those who suffer severe allergic reactions.

EpiPen is a unique auto-injector designed to allow those without medical training to safely and effectively administer epinephrine to reverse the fatal effects of severe allergic reactions. Since Mylan acquired EpiPen in 2007, the price has increased significantly, from nearly $100 to more than $600.

Congressman Murphy, who serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and Chairs the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee said: "Our main focus is on making sure this emergency medication is affordable and accessible where needed. We will be looking deeper into what is responsible for these price increases.”

EpiPen is a product of Mylan, the world’s leading generics and specialty pharmaceutical company, headquartered in Pennsylvania's 18th Congressional District in Canonsburg.
