Congresswoman Jenkins talks with Kansans at her 2010 Jobs Fair

There has been a lot of talk in Washington about fiscal responsibility lately, yet the U.S. debt has now topped $18 trillion.  It is time for the rhetoric to end, and for Congress to be responsible with your dollars. That is why Ihavejoined my House colleagues in voting for a budget that will not only reduce the deficit, but balance within the budget window.  Americans and economists alike believe that cutting government spending will encourage economic growth and job creation, and I will continue to stand up for hard-working American taxpayers by opposing wasteful and irresponsible government spending.

As many people continue to struggle in this sluggish economy, it is as important as ever to promote job growth. Through 2014, American GDP grew by 2.2%,  real wages increased by 2.4%, and the Kansas unemployment rate of 4.2% was well below the American unemployment rate of 5.7%. However, we still have more to do to ensure that Kansans and Americans everywhere can prosper. The best way forward is to get the government out of the way and let workers and employers focus on creating jobs.
