Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge Pays Tribute to John H. Glenn, Jr.

WARRENSVILLE, HEIGHTS, OH - As services are held in honor of Ohio's hero, Former Senator John H. Glenn, Jr., Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) pays tribute to his life and legacy:

"John Glenn, Jr. was no ordinary man.  He soared – not just in outer space but in our hearts. Each time John took off, he carried the hopes and dreams of our nation and the American people with him. Known and loved around the globe, John will always be the Ohio hero who never forgot his roots.

"After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps, John revolutionized America’s space program.  He was then elected to represent Ohio in the U.S. Senate.  He advanced legislation to limit nuclear proliferation and was a staunch supporter of space exploration, science and education.  His advocacy helped position Ohio as a leader in scientific innovation, advancement, and discovery. Northeast Ohio’s NASA John H. Glenn Research Center – which employs thousands – is a testament to Senator Glenn’s tireless efforts.

"Senator Glenn spent the latter part of his life educating Buckeyes at my alma mater, The Ohio State University.  His legacy will live on through the students he taught at the John Glenn Institute for Public Service and Public Policy.

"Senator Glenn was a public servant, patriot, and pioneer. His commitment to our state and nation show us all what it means to ‘be all we can be.’

"On behalf of the constituents in the Eleventh Congressional District, I extend my deepest condolences to the family of Senator John Glenn, Jr.  Yes, we mourn his departure, but will never forget his contributions to our state and our nation as a decorated veteran, ground-breaking astronaut, respected statesman and beloved professor."
