Budget & Taxes

A balanced budget is the only way for us to avoid a debt crisis and give businesses, families, and individuals the certainty they need to make sound financial decisions. In an effort to cut damaging spending from liberal policy makers, I have supported the House Republican budget proposal known as A Balanced Budget for a Stronger America, which offers specific solutions that would balance the budget within 10 years – without raising taxes. Specifically, this plan would strengthen national defense, repeal Obamacare, promote regulatory reform, expand energy programs, and reduce government waste.

Additionally, I continue to support efforts to simplify and reform our broken tax code. As a former small business owner, I know how difficult it can be to not only run a business day-to-day but also keep up with complicated tax codes at the local, state, and federal levels. That’s why I have always believed that Congress needs to set tax policies that help our most innovative and entrepreneurial citizens, not slow them down with complex laws. Furthermore, I believe that hard-working Americans know how to manage, save, and spend their money better than federal bureaucrats. As such, I will remain focused on keeping more money in the pockets of everyday Americans.

  • DC has a Spending Problem: Unfortunately, while House Republicans have worked hard to provide leadership and real solutions to our nation’s economic and fiscal challenges, President Obama has refused to address the problem of spending that will only lead us further into national debt. Congress must address the spending problem in DC. It cannot be ignored and denied any longer.
  • Obamacare is Killing Small Business: Americans need health care reform that will lower costs for families without growing the size of government and without placing undue burden on American businesses. Congress must start over with a system that contains costs, puts patients in charge, and maintains the highest quality of care in the world..
  • Taxes kill a Vibrant Economy:  Across the board, on issues such as "Cap and Trade" legislation, commonly known as national energy tax, to federal budgets proposing the largest tax increases in history, to bloated "stimulus" plans that fail to create jobs while expanding federal bureaucracies, Democrats are simply spending too much, taxing too much, and borrowing too much. The tax burden on the American citizen MUST be lowered if we are serious about growing the economy.
  • Social Security and Medicare must be Protected: Extending the life of Social Security indefinitely should be a forefront issue for every public policy maker.  I believe it is irresponsible not to take action to ensure citizens can count on the support they earned and paid for throughout their working lives.
