About Internships:

Internships in the Second District and Washington, D.C., offices offer students and young professionals invaluable experience with the legislative process. Interns work side by side with experienced full-time staff, and play an integral part in the daily operations of the office. A typical day for our interns includes welcoming folks to the office, researching legislation for the Congressman and policy staff, and answering constituent calls and letters on various issues before the House.

Internship Application Deadlines:

Summer Internship Application: June 1st
Fall Internship Application: August 31st
Spring Internship Application: November 30th

University of Maine Congressional Internship Program

The Peter Madigan ’81 Congressional Internship Program, in its sixth decade, is open to Juniors and Seniors, regardless of major, on a competitive basis. Each spring several UMaine students are selected to live in Washington, D.C. while working full-time in a congressional office, normally from the Maine delegation. Readings and reports are required in addition to performing staff work in a congressional office.

Now accepting applications for Spring Semester 2017. All UMaine Juniors and Seniors are eligible to apply.
