Every year, Members of Congress are allowed to display one piece of artwork by a high school student from their district in the U.S. Capitol for one year.  Congressman Adam Smith holds an annual judged art competition each year to select which art from the 9th Congressional District receives this honor.

In order to reduce out of pocket expenses for students, entries are not required to be framed, only matted. Each student is limited to one submission. Work must be original in concept and copy written work will not be accepted.

Congressman Smith encourages you to distribute copies of this information at will and encourages high school students to enter. Students who apply must submit their entry with two copies of a completed release form. The guidelines and release form can be downloaded at: http://www.house.gov/content/educate/art_competition/

The winner of the 2016 competition was announced at the Art Exhibition and Reception on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 12:00 to 2:30 pm at the:

The selected student wins prizes including two donated round-trip airline tickets and be invited to attend the national reception for a ribbon-cutting ceremony in June 2015 in Washington, DC. The winning entry will also be displayed in the Cannon tunnel of the U.S. Capitol for one year.
