Ann Arbor — She was walking home from her part-time job she had in college when a man appeared, pointed a gun at her and told her she’d better do what he told her.
Natasha Alexenko, then a 20-year-old student in New York, thought she was getting robbed, or that the man was running from police. Instead, he guided her back to her apartment building, where he raped and sodomized her.
Her hands covered in oil, 18-year-old Phyllis Roullier assembled motor parts from morning to night at the Willow Run Bomber Plant to help win World War II.
On Monday, the now 97-year-old "Rosie the Riveter" of Belleville returned to the B-24 bomber plant's enormous remaining building.
"I used to like walking down to the end and see the planes taking off, because it made me feel really good to see they made it off the ground," she said. "We used to think how proud we were to see the work that we had accomplished."

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, as part of Women’s History Month, U.S. Representatives Debbie Dingell (MI-12) and Candice Miller (MI-10) welcomed to Washington, D.C. an Honor Flight of Original “Rosie the Riveters,” women who worked the factories during World War II, producing munitions and war supplies critical to an Allied victory.
In 1942, Mildred Crow Sargent was a teenage mother from Tennessee who migrated to Detroit to work in an aircraft assembly plant as part of America's massive mobilization for WWII.
And, as she told a New York University "Real Rosie the Riveter" history project in 2010, she was "the fastest riveter" in the place.
So fast that the plant overseers encouraged her to slow production down a bit.
Sargent said she replied, "Those soldiers (on the battlefield) can't slow production. If someone comes at them with a gun, they've got to shoot."
