The influential E&C Committee has broad jurisdiction over issues including commerce and trade, energy policy, environmental quality, telecommunications, consumer protections, automotive safety and health care.

WASHINGTON, DC – President Obama signed into law the bipartisan Great Lakes Fish and Wildlife Restoration Act introduced by U.S. Representatives Debbie Dingell (MI-12), Candice Miller (MI-10), and Darin LaHood (IL-18) to provide critical resources and funding to conserve and restore fish and wildlife in the Great Lakes. The legislation was included as a provision of S. 612, the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act, and it reauthorizes the Great Lakes Fish and Wildlife Restoration Act for the first time since 2006.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representatives Debbie Dingell (MI-12) and Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) today sent a letter to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy urging EPA to list the open waters of Lake Erie’s Western Basin as impaired under the terms of the Clean Water Act. The area continues to experience a decline in water quality due to high levels of nutrients that are producing harmful toxic algal blooms, which pose a serious health risk for residents.

DEARBORN, MIU.S. Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) released the following statement after the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) issued emergency rules to establish 1,4-dioxane standards across the state. Earlier this year Dingell sent a letter to MDEQ Director Keith Creagh urging the state to finalize stricter standards to help accelerate cleanup of the dioxane plume that has been spreading through Ann Arbor’s groundwater for decades.

The letter comes after recent developments have increased the level of concern in the community, including the discovery of 1,4 dioxane in shallow groundwater on the west side of the city for the first time.

ANN ARBOR, MI – U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell is reaching out to the Environmental Protection Agency, raising concerns about the Gelman dioxane plume spreading through the Ann Arbor area's groundwater.

Dingell, D-Dearborn, sent a letter to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy on Tuesday, Oct. 25, questioning current efforts to address the toxic chemical plume that has been spreading from the former Gelman Sciences site on Wagner Road for decades, now contaminating much of the groundwater on Ann Arbor's west side and parts of Scio Township west of the city.

Washington — Four Michigan House members this week signed onto a letter with 88 other Democrats urging President Barack Obama to veto any Republican attempts to strip Endangered Species Act protections from authorizing or spending bills this fall.

Their concerns centered on “anti-wildlife” provisions within the House energy package and defense bill, as well as the Interior appropriation bills passed by both chambers of Congress, explaining the measures would remove protections for gray wolves, grizzly bears and federally protected lands in Alaska, among other protections.
