U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch offers internships throughout the year in his Washington, DC and state offices. The internship program is designed for full-time college juniors and seniors, and preference is given to students who have ties to the state of Utah. Washington, DC internships are full-time positions with a modest stipend. Positions are available on both the personal and the Judiciary committee staff. State office internships are part-time, unpaid positions.

Interns will have the opportunity to see the workings of a senatorial office and observe the political process in action. Responsibilities include: attending Senate hearings, assisting legislative assistants with research on specific projects, responding to constituent mail, and tracking legislation. Interns will also help sort mail, meet and greet constituents, guide Capitol tours, answer telephones, and work on other assignments as needed. Applicants must have excellent writing and communication skills. Being able to work as part of a team is also essential.

Most schools have formal internship programs and offices that will help you compile and send your application. We endeavor to work with the established internship programs within each university and college, and advise you to take advantage of this resource if it is available to you. However, if your school does not have an internship office or program, you may email the items listed below to internship@hatch.senate.gov.
