Congressmen Collins, King (NY), and Rothfus Aim to Improve Veteran Halls with Legislation

May 5, 2015
Press Release

Congressmen Chris Collins (NY-27), Peter King (NY-02), and Keith Rothfus (PA-12)  today issued the following statement after introducing the Renovate and Enhance Veterans’ Meeting Halls and Posts (REVAMP) Act. The legislation will make it easier to secure funding for maintenance and improvements to veterans’ meeting halls and posts.

“Ensuring our veteran organizations have the resources needed to maintain and improve their facilities is the least we can do in return for the service they have given to our country,” said Congressman Collins. “I want to thank Congressman King and Congressman Rothfus for joining me in introducing this vital legislation.”

“I commend Rep. Collins for his leadership in introducing the REVAMP Act,” said Congressman King. “This critical legislation will provide veteran organizations with the means to enhance their facilities and ensure their ability to continue providing local communities with a safe venue for so many activities and events.”

“American Legions and VFW Posts in Pennsylvania and throughout the country provide a rallying point where veterans can come together to share stories, get help with VA claims, and get involved in the community,” said Congressman Rothfus. “These veteran organizations do so much for our service members and their families, and this important legislation allows for much-needed upgrades to their facilities.”

The REVAMP Act allows organizations who are classified by the IRS as 501(c)(19) non-profit organizations and comprised primarily of past or present members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their family members to be eligible for funding through Community Development Block Grants (CDBG). This legislation does not add to the deficit. The REVAMP Act uses existing CDBG funding and simply makes veteran organizations eligible for that funding.
