Congressman Chris Collins Partners with County Clerks to Help Gun Owners Protect their Privacy

Feb 20, 2013
Press Release

Congressman Chris Collins (NY-27) is looking to help local, law abiding gun owners protect their privacy.  Starting today, residents of New York’s 27th Congressional District can stop by Collins’ district offices in either Lancaster or Geneseo to pick up or drop off their ‘Opt-Out” forms.  New York State is giving individual pistol permit holders the ability to fill out an ‘Opt-Out’ form to protect their information from ever being made public.  New York’s new gun control legislation gives permit holders a 60 day widow to exercise their ‘Opt-Out’ option.

“If pistol permit holders are now going to be required to fill out additional paperwork to ensure their privacy is protected, I want to make my offices a resource to help them quickly obtain and return an ‘Opt-Out’ form,” said Collins. “As a member of Congress, I am not in a position to change New York’s new law, but I can help law abiding gun owners protect their privacy rights.”

Permit holders can stop by Collins’ offices to either pick up a form, or drop off a completed form which will be forwarded to their County Clerk’s office.

“We are grateful for the Congressman’s help in spreading the word about this new privacy right in the NY Safe Act and making ‘Opt-Out’ forms available at his district offices,” said Erie County Clerk Jacobs. “The Congressman’s support with this effort will be a great help in our efforts to inform the over 70,000 pistol permit holders in Erie County of this new right they have to protect their privacy.”

Collins’ Lancaster office is located at 2813 Wehrle Drive, Suite 13, Williamsville, NY  14221.  The Geneseo office is located at 75 Main Street, Suite C in the Village.

Permit holders can also visit www.erie.gov/optout or www.livingstoncounty.us to print out an ‘Opt-Out’ form.
