Congressman Chris Collins Recognizes Mt. Morris Man as ‘Veteran of the Month’

Congressman Chris Collins (NY-27) today released the following statement recognizing United States Army Veteran, Sam Maggio, Sr., of Mt. Morris, as New York’s 27th Congressional District ‘Veteran of the Month’ for June. The ‘Veteran of the Month’ is a new program established by Congressman Collins’ office to recognize the dedication and service of NY-27’s veterans.

“I was honored to have the opportunity to meet with Mr. Maggio and hear about his service in the Army,” said Congressman Collins. “Seeing Mr. Maggio receive this honor, surrounded by his brothers in the Mt. Morris Fire Department, was a special moment. We are grateful for Mr. Maggio’s service to our country and the residents of Mt. Morris. My office will continue to recognize a local ‘Veteran of the Month’ as a small thank you to the thousands of Western New York veterans who have selflessly served our country.”

Sam Maggio, Sr. served with the 169th Infantry in the 43rd Division of the United States Army during the Korean War. After returning home, Sam decided to continue dedicating his life to serving others and joined the Active Hose Company of the Mt. Morris Fire Department in 1961. Throughout his life, Sam has been actively involved in a number of local veterans organizations, the Ole Boys Car Group, and the Mt. Morris Active Hose Company. Congressman Collins was joined by Sam’s fellow firefighters at a ceremony where Sam was presented with a Congressional Certificate of Commendation and a flag flown over the United States Capitol Building. Mr. Maggio was presented this recognition on Saturday, June 18, 2016.
