Congressman Chris Collins Legislative Efforts Secure Funding

Jun 19, 2014
Press Release

Congressman Chris Collins today released the following statement on language included in the House Energy and Water Appropriations bill that increases funding opportunities for major energy innovators in New York.

“Our efforts to assist major job producers and innovators in New York cleared a major hurdle with the passage of the House Energy and Water Appropriations bill,” said Congressman Collins. “Supporting energy innovators is essential to unleashing New York and the country’s economic growth. I remain optimistic my language providing increased funding for the Omega Laser Facility at the University of Rochester’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) will remain in the final legislation. Until then, I look forward to the final bill coming to the House floor and will fight to ensure its successful passage.”

The Energy and Water Appropriations bill contained language, which Congressman Collins worked to include, that would increase funding opportunities for the LLE. Collins’ request helped the Omega Laser Facility secure a $4,000,000 funding increase from the prior fiscal year. The LLE serves as home to two of the world’s largest and most powerful lasers, and is a vital contributor to an independent energy future.

This request for additional funding was fully disclosed and complies with clause 9(e) of Rule XXI of the Rules of the House regarding Member requests.
