Congressman Chris Collins Backs Bill to Stop EPA’s Job Killing Energy Rules

Jun 10, 2014
Press Release

Congressman Chris Collins is supporting legislation to prevent the Obama Administration’s EPA from shutting down coal plants and driving up the cost of electricity. Collins is co-sponsoring HR 4813 introduced by Congressman McKinley of West Virginia.

The bill will terminate the EPA’s proposed regulations that will crush America’s coal industry and force both job losses and higher energy prices. The bill will also prevent the EPA from issuing a substantially similar rule for a period of five years from the date this bill is enacted and mandates that Congress authorize any similar rule.

“President Obama's new climate rules will hit the average American where they can least afford it – the wallet,” said Congressman Collins. “If this plan is allowed to be become law, there is no doubt the cost of energy will increase and many Americans will lose their jobs when power plants are forced to close. In typical fashion, the Obama administration and its out-of-control EPA think the federal government knows best. The American people know otherwise.”
