Congressman Chris Collins Announces Growing Support to Suspend Member Pay During Shutdown

Eighteen Members of the House Join Collins Effort
Congressman Chris Collins (NY-27) announced this afternoon that 18 Members of the House of Representatives signed on as co-sponsors of the Government Shutdown Fairness Act, which would suspend pay for Members of Congress during any government shutdown.
“As a private sector businessman, I know firsthand that running a successful company means leading by example and making sacrifices to keep the company going. I can’t remember the number of times I had to forego a paycheck to make sure my employees and vendors got paid, and the company stayed afloat. Members of Congress need to do the same,” said Congressman Collins.
“That’s why I sponsored the Government Shutdown Fairness Act, to hold Congress accountable and to the same standard families and small businesses are held to everyday. Until we do our job and get the government running again, we don’t get paid. It’s that simple,” said Congressman Collins.

“The American people deserve more from their Congress and it is time, as Members of Congress, that we put ourselves at the back of the line and put our constituents first in a government shutdown,” said Congressman Collins.
“It is wrong that Members of Congress should continue to get paid while programs for veterans, seniors and many others are adversely impacted,” concluded Congressman Collins.
