Congressman Chris Collins (NY-27) today announced $43,200 in federal funding from the Federal Aviation Administration for the Perry-Warsaw Airport, located in Wyoming County. The grant will assist the Perry-Warsaw Airport in funding a new automatic weather observing system-II.

Jun 5, 2014 Press Release

Congressman Chris Collins announced today that the Dansville Municipal Airport will receive two grants from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) totaling more than $1.1 million. The first grant, for $1,077,300, will fund the rehabilitation of both approximately 1,500 linear feet of taxiway and approximately 60,000 square feet of existing apron pavement. An apron is the area of the airport where planes are parked, unloaded, refueled and boarded. This grant will also fund the replacement of the airport’s rotating beacon.

Congressman Chris Collins announced today that the Canandaigua Airport will receive nearly $300,000 in grant funds from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to help the airport more efficiently remove snow and ice from runways. The grant for $292,500 will be used to purchase a new loader with a 14-foot plow to help better remove snow and ice from the newly expanded runway. The new equipment will help ensure the airport remains serviceable during snowstorms.

Congressman Chris Collins (NY-27) voted in support of the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA), which passed the House 412-4 today. The legislation contains funding and programs aimed at protecting the economy of the Great Lakes.

“The Great Lakes are an essential part of Western New York’s economy,” said Congressman Collins.  “Any threat to the Great Lakes should be taken seriously for both the potential economic and environmental fallout.”

More than 200 members of the House of Representatives, from both parties, are joining together and telling the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to back off its plan to expand federal control under the Clean Water Act (CWA). Both agencies are seeking a rule change to give the federal government more authority by expanding the already overly broad definition of ‘navigable waters’ under the CWA.

Western New York Congressmembers Brian Higgins (NY-26) and Chris Collins (NY-27) are calling for a reversal on a plan by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to remove Buffalo-Niagara International Airport’s (BNIA) status as a hub airport.  Under the TSA’s “hub and spoke realignment” plan the Buffalo airport would become a spoke and Albany would become the upstate hub.

WASHINGTON – New commercial airline pilots will need to have far more experience before climbing into the cockpit under a new set of federal rules unveiled Wednesday that won widespread praise from the Families of Continental Flight 3407 and members of Congress.

The new Federal Aviation Administration rules, which stem from a law Congress passed in reaction to the crash of Continental Connection Flight 3407 in Clarence Center in 2009, require many co-pilots to have 1,500 hours of flying experience before being assigned to passenger flights.
