One of the greatest responsibilities this country has is to ensure our members of the military are cared for while on active duty but also during their retirement.  Our military retirees gave a career of service to their country, risked their lives in combat and separation from their families.  Because of their great sacrifice for our country, we should not go back on our promises for their honorable service nor balance fiscal irresponsibility on their backs. As your Member of Congress I will always work to make certain our veterans receive the greatest possible care.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Bob Gibbs applauds his colleagues on the passage of a series of bills focused on helping small businesses and veterans.  On Monday evening, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 2499, the Veterans Entrepreneurship Act, which directs the Small Business Administration (SBA) to eliminate the fees made to loan applications from veterans.

As each week passes we are learning more about the inexcusable backlog within the Veterans Affairs agency. We must reduce the VA backlog and hold those within the Department of Veterans Affairs accountable for their actions. This week my colleagues and I passed the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2015. This bill will help to boost essential Veterans programs and fulfill our moral and legal obligation to them.

In light of Memorial Day, I would like to take this opportunity to shed light on a very serious problem we are presently having in Ohio and throughout the country regarding the amount of time our veterans are forced to wait to receive the medical benefits they need. It has come to my attention that many veterans are waiting over a year for their disability claims to be processed by the Department of Veterans Affairs, and that is inexcusable.
