WASHINGTON, DC – With Tax Day this past Monday and the sting of dealing with the Internal Revenue Service still fresh in the minds of millions of Americans, the House approved several bills to reform the government agency this week.  Following passage of two bills yesterday, the House voted on H.R. 3724, the Ensuring Integrity of the IRS Workforce Act this morning.  H.R. 3724 prevents the IRS from rehiring former employees who were fired for misconduct.

The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) sole power to set prices for broadband internet access will be stopped according to a bill passed by the House of Representatives this morning.  H.R. 2666, the No Rate Regulation for Broadband Internet Access Act is in response to the FCC’s actions last year that reclassified broadband internet as a Title II utility. While FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler pledged at the time not to implement rate regulation, the legislation passed today would, by law, prevent any future FCC actions from implementing broadband rate regulation.

Res. 639 authorizes Speaker Paul Ryan to file an amicus brief on behalf of the House of Representatives in a pending Supreme Court case over President Obama’s executive actions on illegal immigrants.
