Each spring, the U.S. House of Representatives sponsors a nationwide high school arts competition. The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent of students across the country. This year, high school students across Central and Northwest Connecticut submitted over 100 works of art.

The winner of the 2016 competition was Molly Humphreys, a student at Nonnewaig High School l in Woodbury, for her painting, "An Artist’s Reaction.” Her painting will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol alongside other winning pieces from students of all 50 states and the U.S. territories.  Humphreys will also have the opportunity to fly to Washington, D.C., for the national reception in June.
