I appreciate the opportunity to welcome you to our Nation’s capital and look forward to assisting you in planning your visit. Washington is filled with many popular and historical sites to see. My office can help you in scheduling Congressional Tours at some of the city’s most beloved historical sites. Please keep in mind that the spaces for these tours are very limited and are intended for residents of the 50th district. Additionally, please be advised that our office cannot guarantee the scheduling of any tour and tours are subject to availability. We recommend that you submit your tour requests 3-6 months in advance of your visit.

Washington, DC Tourism Information

Below are tours available through my office:

The White House

Tour Summary: The tour includes visits to the State Dining Room, the Red Room, the Blue Room, the Green Room, and the East Room.

Closest Metro Stop: McPherson Square (Blue and Orange lines)
Tour Length: 30-45 minutes, self-guided
Availability: Tuesday-Thursday from 7:30am-11am
Friday from 7:30am-noon
Saturday 7:30am-1pm (excluding federal holidays)
The White House Visitor’s Office reserves the right to select the time.
How to Request a Tour: All White House Tours must be requested at least 21 days in advance and up to six months in advance.  Constituents are encouraged to submit their request as early as possible since a limited number of tours are available and tours are scheduled on a first come, first served basis approximately three weeks in advance of the requested date.
White House Visitors Center: If denied a White House tour, please visit their White House Visitors Center located at the southeast corner of 15th and E streets in the Department of Commerce building. The Visitor Center is open seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and features many aspects of the White House. The National Park Service is also able to provide your group with a variety of alternative experiences related to the White House. These include guided walks, talks, films and lectures. Security Information: The White House requires the following information for each person going on the tour. The information includes: full names, social security numbers (anyone over the age of 18), dates of birth, status of citizenship, and city & state of residence.
Notes: You will be notified of your tour’s status approximately two-three weeks before the requested tour date.

The United States Capitol

Tour Summary: The United States Capitol in Washington, DC is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. The tour includes visits to the Crypt, Rotunda, Old Supreme Court Chamber, Statuary Hall, and House Gallery.
Closest Metro Stop: Capitol South (Blue and Orange lines)
Tour Length: 1 to 2 hours, depending on crowds and tour guide.
Tour Availability: Tours through the Capitol Visitors Service are available between 9:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Saturday and can be booked through my office or through the Capitol Visitor’s Center Web site. Visitors seeking a tour through the Capitol Visitors Center may also obtain same-day tickets at the Capitol Guide Service kiosk beginning at 9:00 am.

Notes: Constituents can also obtain Gallery passes to view House proceedings as they unfold through my Washington, D.C. office. We are located at 2429 Rayburn House Building, which is located across the street from the Capitol.

The Bureau of Printing and Engraving

Tour Summary: The tour allows the public to view and learn about the various steps of currency production.

Closest Metro Stop: Smithsonian (Blue and Orange lines)
Tour Length: 1 hour
Constituent Tour Availability: Monday through Friday, 8:15 am and 8:45 am for groups of 10 or less.
In the months of May through August, tours are also available at 4:00, 4:15, 4:30, and 4:45 pm. Please request tour at least 1 month before the desired tour date. (We encourage you to submit your request as early as possible since a limited number of tours are available and tours are scheduled on a first come, first served basis).
Public Tour Availability: During non-peak season—September through February—no tickets are required. Free timed tickets are required for entry during peak season, March through August. Visitors may obtain tickets at the onsite ticket booth located on Raoul Wallenberg Place (formerly 15th Street) beginning at 8:00 am and closes when all tickets have been distributed. Ticket times include 9:00 am to 10:45 am and 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm Monday through Friday. In the months of May through August, additional tours are available 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Notes: Lines form early and tickets go quickly. On most days, all tickets have been distributed before 7 am. During the time of heightened security, be advised that all tour policies are subject to change without public notification.

Library of Congress

Tour Summary: The tour includes fully accessible docent-led tours of the historic Thomas Jefferson Building. During your tour you will learn about the Building’s symbolic art and architecture and view the grandeur of the Main Reading Room. Professionally trained docents tell the story of the Library—America’s oldest cultural institution—by talking about its history, its collections (including the Gutenberg Bible), and the services provided to Congress and the nation.

Tour Length: 1 hour
Constituent Tour Availability: Monday-Friday, 8:30 am, 1:45pm and 3:45pm for groups 12 or less. In the months of January and February tours are only available at 1:45pm. Reserved group tours are available for groups of 12 or more people. Group tours are available Monday-Friday, 9:00am, 10:00am, 11:00am and 1:00pm. Advanced reservation required for all groups of 12 or more.
Public Tour Availability: Monday-Saturday, 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. Unfortunately there are not 3:30 p.m. tours on Saturdays and first tour is at 9:30 a.m. on Federal Holidays. Also, there are not advance reservations or tickets available.

Notes: Tours can also be booked without a Congressional Office by showing up at the Library of Congress at available public tour times.
