Congressman Thomas Massie

Representing the 4th District of Kentucky

Energy

With dual engineering degrees from MIT in the fields of Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, I am keenly aware of the practical issues involved in energy production.  In fact, I designed and built my own house which generates all of its own power using a combination of solar, geothermal, propane, and wood.

Energy independence should be a top priority for America.  Achieving domestic energy independence will strengthen our national security by reducing our dependence on hostile nations.  Artificially limiting our energy exploration and production through law and regulation threatens our quality of life and could mortally wound our economy.  America, and Kentucky in particular, has abundant natural recourses including coal, oil, natural gas, shale, nuclear, solar, wind, and geothermal.  I will support all domestic sources of energy as long as they can compete in the free market without subsidies.

Nov 4, 2015 Press Release
The House of Representatives passed an amendment sponsored by Congressman Thomas Massie, Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), and Congresswoman Anna Eshoo (D-CA) that would allow the General Services Administration (GSA) to construct, install, and operate electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for private vehicle use at federal facilities at no cost to the taxpayer. The amendment, which Congressman Massie modeled after a bill written by Congresswoman Lofgren, is part of the Surface Transportation Reauthorization & Reform Act of 2015, which authorizes funds for the Highway Trust Fund for six years.
