What Hank has done:
- Played host to former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Thomas R. Pickering on Capitol Hill in April 2011 to discuss the path to a political settlement of the war in Afghanistan.
- Consistently opposed the Iraq War and supported removal of our forces from Iraq.
- As member of House Armed Services Committee, always voted to protect and support our Armed Forces.
- Cosponsored the successful legislation of the 9/11 Commission's official recommendations.
- Introduced and passed a resolution officially calling upon the warring parties in Uganda, the government of the United States, and the international community to work to peacefully resolve that country's brutal civil war.
- Voted to restrict "no-bid" defense contracts, by which politically-connected companies like Halliburton receive Pentagon contracts with no competition.
- Introduced legislation to establish a National Commission on Detainee Treatment to review United States policy regarding the capture, custody, treatment, judicial proceedings, and repatriation of suspected "unlawful enemy combatants."
- Co-authored legislation to impose sanctions on Iran’s petroleum sector. It passed the House.
- Cosponsored the Iran Counter-Proliferation Act, which passed the House. It would sanction Iran for its failure to make good on its international legal commitments with regard to its clandestine nuclear program.
- Cosponsored the successful Darfur Accountability and Divestment Act, which states that it is U.S. policy to support state and local efforts to divest funds from, or restrict investments in, companies that conduct business operations in Sudan.
- Voted to increase U.S. funding for the global fight against diseases such as HIV/AIDS, TB, and malaria, which exacerbate global poverty, pose an international health risk, and undermine the stability of entire regions.

Yesterday, House Judiciary Democrats convened a forum on “The Electoral College and the Future of American Democracy.” It has been nearly twenty years since the last hearing on this topic in 1997, and much has happened since then.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04), a member of the House Judiciary Committee released a statement supporting the Obama administration’s review of cyber-attacks in the 2016 election.
Congressman Hank Johnson held a telephone town hall from his Washington, D.C. office on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. He called 50,000 residents in the Fourth District to hear their thoughts on the results of the Nov. 8 General Election and to listen to what they would like to see him work on in the 115th Congress that begins Jan. 3, 2017.

Congressman also pushes to protect voters’ access and provide paper ballots
Congressman Hank Johnson clarified and apologized today regarding his remarks about the Israeli settlement enterprise during a panel held outside the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia:
As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, it gives me great pride to serve citizens of the Fourth District, Georgia and our nation. Every day I go to work – whether in Washington or in Georgia – I work on behalf of the men and women who so honorably and bravely serve in the U.S. Armed Forces.
On this Fourth of July, I especially want to salute the men and women and their families who serve in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. Thank you for all that you do!

I’m pleased to announce I have nominated 23 Fourth District students to the United States Military Service Academies for the class of 2020.
In advance of this round of nominations, my staff held more than 24 information sessions at schools throughout the district, which includes parts of DeKalb, Newton and Gwinnett counties and all of Rockdale County.
Putting forward nominations of Fourth District students for admission to the U.S. Military Academies is one of the most important jobs we do each year.
