Art Competition
Encouraging the Sixth District's Aspiring Young Artists
Every spring, the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives sponsor a nationwide high school art competition. An Artistic Discovery began in 1982 as a contest designed to encourage our America's aspiring young artists. Since then, more than 650,000 students have participated in this annual competition, which Members conduct in their respective congressional districts. Winners will have their submissions displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol.
An Artistic Discovery is open to all high school students in the Sixth District. Students may submit entries through their school. Home-schooled students or students of a non-participating high school who wish to enter the competition may make arrangements to submit their entry directly to our office by contacting my Lexington office at 859-219-1366.

The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students in the Sixth District. Each student will be granted the opportunity to submit one piece of artwork. The artwork must be original in design, no more than 15 lbs. and no larger than 28” X 28” X 4.” The artwork must also be prepared for hanging.
The overall winner will have his or her piece displayed in the United States Capitol for the next year. It will represent the Sixth Congressional District of Kentucky among hundreds of pieces from other congressional districts all over the country. The winner of the competition will also receive two airline tickets from Southwest Airlines to come see their artwork which will be displayed in the United States Capitol Building.
If you know of a student who wishes to participate, please have them complete the Participation Form and return it to my Lexington office no later than Friday, March 4, 2016.
The artwork must be submitted to my Lexington District Office with the Student Information & Release Form no later than Friday, March 25, 2016.
I will be hosting a Congressional Art Competition Reception at the Living Arts and Science Center in Lexington on April 7, 2016, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. All artist, families, and friends are welcome to attend.

The winner of the 2015 Congressional Art Competition from the Sixth District was Woodford County High School student, Brad Praria, and his winning piece, “Natural Bridge Kentucky.” The piece is displayed in the halls of the United States Capitol along with winning art from across the country.
