Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) today voted in favor of the Conference report to H.R. 4909, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2017. The NDAA is the primary way Congress meets its most important constitutional obligation to provide for the common defense.
Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) will host his annual Academy Day on Saturday, August 27, 2016 in Lexington. All students, parents, and school officials from the Sixth Congressional District are invited to attend and learn more about the nomination process to the United States Service Academies. Representatives from the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and the University of Kentucky Army and Air Force ROTC programs have been invited to participate.

Congressman Andy Barr (KY-6) today appeared before the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Subcommittee on Health in support of the Military Sexual Assault Victims’ Empowerment (SAVE) Act. He was joined by former Army Specialist Susan Moseley of Lexington, a survivor of military sexual trauma whose story helped inspire Congressman Barr to write the legislation.

Congressman Andy Barr (KY-6) today honored the life and service of Captain Matthew D. Roland of Lexington who was killed while serving in Afghanistan on August 26, 2015. Roland was an Eagle Scout, a graduate of Lexington Catholic High School and the United States Airforce Academy. He served as an officer in the 23rd Special Tactics Squadron.

Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY) today reintroduced the H.R. 1603, the Military Sexual Assault Victims Empowerment (SAVE) Act. The bill would allow survivors of military sexual trauma to seek specialized care outside of the Veterans Administration health care system.
Congressman Andy Barr (KY-6) today honored the life of Officer Burke J. Rhoads of the Nicholasville Police Department with a speech on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. Officer Rhoads, a U.S. Army veteran, died during a car accident while he was on duty on March 11, 2015.

WASHINGTON – After being sworn in to the 114th Congress, Congressman Andy Barr supported passage of H.R. 22, the Hire More Heroes Act, which exempts veterans already enrolled in healthcare plans through the Department of Defense or the VA from being counted toward the employee limit under the Affordable Care Act. LEXINGTON – Congressman Andy Barr announced today that his office will host a Military Academy Day for Sixth District students interested in applying to one of the nation’s service academies. The event will be held on Saturday, September 13th at the Aviation Museum of Kentucky from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with registration beginning at 9:30 AM.
