Term Limits

More on Term Limits

WASHINGTON – Congressman Andy Barr released the following statement following President Obama’s State of the Union Address:

“Tonight, I had hoped to hear about how the President will reduce our exploding federal debt, protect the American people from the harmful effects of the new healthcare law, and grow the economy to create jobs for hardworking families who are suffering in this stagnant economy.

“Unfortunately, the President offered the same failed approach of more government spending, more job-crushing regulations, and higher taxes.

The response today demonstrates the overwhelming interest in finding new opportunities to build community and economic success in the Appalachian region.
Congressman Andy Barr spoke on the floor of the House of Representatives after voting for  the House Amendment to the CR, which would keep the government open, while delaying Obamacare's individual mandate and canceling health-insurance subsidies for members of Congress, their staff and the White House.

Mr. Barr:

The House has voted multiple times to fund the government and to prevent a shutdown.

On Monday, September 9, Congressman Andy Barr helped introduce H.R. 3067, the No Obamacare Subsidies for Members of Congress Act of 2013, legislation authored by Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (WV) that would prevent Members of Congress from receiving a roughly 75 percent subsidy for the purchase of a health insurance policy on the healthcare exchanges created under the Affordable Care Act.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Andy Barr today announced the launch of his newly re-designed congressional website, www.Barr.House.Gov.  This new "Online Office" will serve as an interactive and informative resource for Congressman Barr’s constituents.

Dear Congressman Barr:

I agree with you – real change in Washington requires fresh thinking.  I believe that term limits will diminish the incentive of Members to focus solely on reelection, and help achieve our Founding Fathers’ vision of a Congress composed of citizen legislators dedicated to promoting the national interest rather than their own self-interest.

H.R. 2010 - Live by the Laws you Write Act

Congressman Andy Barr introduced H.R. 2010, the Live by the Laws You Write Act, simple, two-page legislation that aims to close Obamacare’s congressional loophole and ensure that Congress and its staff are not exempt from the laws that it writes.

H.R. 2312 - Aged Distilled Spirits Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Andy Barr last week introduced House Joint Resolution 26; a proposed amendment to the United States Constitution that would cap at 12 the number of consecutive years which members of the House and the Senate could serve in office.

The Amendment would limit House members to six consecutive two-year terms and Senators to two consecutive six-year terms.  These limits would apply prospectively, after two-thirds of the states have ratified the Amendment.
