Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY) today made the following statement after the President’s State of the Union Address:
“What the country needs is a plan to defeat ISIS. What we need is an agenda to grow the economy. Instead, President Obama gave us a lecture about his legacy and in defense of policies that have contributed to the worst economic recovery since World War II and chaos around the world. Families continue to struggle and there is not a single place in the world which is safer or more stable today than on the day President Obama took office seven years ago.”
Congressman Andy Barr (KY-6) voted against a Senate amendment to a Department of Homeland Security funding bill. Congressman Barr has voted to fund the Department of Homeland Security three times since January. However, Senate Democrats blocked a conference committee, an important step in the legislative process that would have addressed differences between the House-passed bill and the Senate amendment.
Congressman Andy Barr (KY-6) today voted to extend funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for one week. The extension prevents an immediate lapse in funding for DHS and gives Congress time to negotiate differences between a House bill to fund the Department passed more than six weeks ago, and a Senate version of the bill which was passed earlier today. The extension will not enable the President’s executive actions granting amnesty to millions of undocumented immigrants because the U.S.

I thank the Chairman for yielding and Mr. Speaker, I rise today in support of H.R 240, providing appropriations for the Department of Homeland Security for the remainder of this fiscal year.
This legislation provides funding necessary to ensure that all of the Department’s critical missions have the resources necessary to be dutifully executed.
