Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) today voted in favor of the Conference report to H.R. 4909, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2017. The NDAA is the primary way Congress meets its most important constitutional obligation to provide for the common defense.

All students, parents, and school officials from the Sixth Congressional District are invited to attend and learn more about the nomination process to the United States Service Academies. Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) today voted for H.R. 4909, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2017. The legislation corrects funding shortfalls that have resulted in a lack of military readiness and put our troops at increased risk. The bill increases the number of troops in each branch of the military and increases troop pay by 2.1 percent. Among other provisions, the bill also prevents the transfer of detainees from Guantanamo Bay to the United States.
Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) led a moment of silence honoring Stephanie and Justin Shults who were killed in the terrorist attacks in Brussels, Belgium on March 22, 2016. Stephanie Moore Shults is a native of Lexington and a graduate of Bryan Station High School and Transylvania University.

“What the country needs is a plan to defeat ISIS. What we need is an agenda to grow the economy. Instead, President Obama gave us a lecture about his legacy and in defense of policies that have contributed to the worst economic recovery since World War II and chaos around the world. Families continue to struggle and there is not a single place in the world which is safer or more stable today than on the day President Obama took office seven years ago.”
Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY) today voted for H.R. 158, the Visa Waiver Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act. The bipartisan legislation makes reforms to the Visa Waiver Program in light of recent terrorist attacks and concerns that security gaps in the program could make it easier for foreign fighters and terrorists to enter the United States.
Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) voted today in favor of H.R. 4038, the American Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act. The legislation immediately suspends President Obama’s plan to resettle Syrian refugees in the United States, and requires enhanced, comprehensive security checks and certifications before additional refugees from Iraq and Syria may be allowed to enter the country.
