  • Youth Empowerment Strategy

    Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02) introduced the Youth Empowerment Strategy as part of his effort to provide more opportunities for youth across the country. The Youth Empowerment Strategy, made up of the Youth Summer Jobs and Public Service Act of 2015 and the Student Disciplinary Fairness Act of 2015 would expand summer job programs and take steps to combat the use of the criminal justice system for routine school discipline.
  • Reforming Our Broken Criminal Justice System

    I am committed to reforming our broken prison system to save taxpayers money and give ex-offenders, those who have paid their debt to society, a second chance. In conjunction with my leadership on criminal justice matters, I have focused on producing legislation which invests in education, in economic growth, and in jobs. I believe we should be investing in jobs and education, instead of squandering tax dollars building more prisons.

Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02) was sworn in as the 25th Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) during a ceremony hosted by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) at the Warner Theatre. The ceremony marked the induction of the largest class in the CBC’s 46-year history.

Rep. Cedric Richmond (LA-02) announced the availability of more than $19 million in federal funding for the Ascension Parish School Board. The resources will reimburse schools throughout Ascension Parish that require temporary facilities due to damages from the August flooding.
December 5, 2016 Press Release
Rep. Cedric Richmond (LA-02) announced the availability of millions in federal funding for the Baker School System and the City of Baton Rouge. The Baker School System will receive $3.9 million for cleaning, damage removal and sanitization of school buildings impacted by the flooding and Baton Rouge will receive $2.9 million for performing emergency protective measures as a result of severe storms and flooding.
