2017 Presidential Inauguration

Due to the high volume of requests we received, we are no longer offering tickets to the Inauguration. Please see below for information about how you can attend Inauguration without a ticket.

Public Viewing Access

The Presidential Inauguration is a public event. Without a ticket you may still view the swearing in ceremony that will take place on the west front of the Capitol Building. The public is welcome to view this event from the National Mall (starting at 4th Street) by way of video screens and audio systems that will be set up.  Following the conclusion of the Inaugural Ceremonies and the luncheon, a parade will take place from the Capitol Building to the White House which can be seen from most places along Pennsylvania Avenue.

Timing

On Inauguration day, a musical prelude will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. It is anticipated that up to 800,000 people will be travelling into DC to watch the Inaugural Ceremony, so please anticipate delayed travel time and plan to arrive early. Please keep in mind that the majority of guests attending Inauguration will stand in traditionally cold weather for three to seven hours.

Transportation

Driving is not recommended while you are in town due to the high volume of traffic, pedestrians, and road closures. It is strongly recommended that you plan to walk, bike, or take the metro. The metro typically runs from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m., but may have extended hours on January 20th due to the high volume of visitors.

Additional Information

The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies has established a public website with information regarding the history of Inauguration and details about the various ceremonies taking place. The site will be updated periodically with additional information that may be of interest. To learn more, please visit the site here.
