Four years after the tragic shooting at #SandyHook, Fred Upton and Congressman Tim Murphy (PA-18) reflect on the #mentalhealth reforms which are now law.

"Inno...cence was shattered on a cold day in Connecticut four years ago. But out of this darkest of tragedies has risen a glimmer of hope, as the landmark mental health reforms signed into law yesterday were spurred by the events of Sandy Hook. Following Newtown, we started a national conversation on serious mental illness and began an in-depth investigation into how the federal government handles mental health disorders. Our multi-year, bipartisan, bicameral effort revealed a broken system and informed our legislative response to overhaul the antiquated patchwork of ineffective programs. Mental illness is no longer a subject for the shadows, and while more work remains, tremendous strides have been made to help families and individuals in mental health crisis. There is reason for hope, as we remember Sandy Hook and the children and teachers lost, we celebrate the step forward to deliver treatment before tragedy.” Read more here >> http://bit.ly/2htnkHo

  • BUSTED! The US Sent ISIS $1.5 Billion in Weapons from Europe, Ukrain...e http://russia-insider.com/en/politics/busted-us-sent-isis-15-billion-weapons-europe-ukraine/ri18298 I hope you read this article and take it to the Over-Site Committee. The New Eastern Outlook website has an extraordinary article up by the excellent French investigative reporter Jean Perier, exposing the massive arms sales that have been going on between Eastern European countries, including Ukraine, and ISIS. Perier points out that a lot of these arms are of Soviet manufacture - in order to cover tracks, and are primarily coming out of places like Bulgaria, Ukraine, Montenegro, Czech Republic, Serbia, and other former East bloc nations. He argues that the arms trade is so large, that in and of itself this would be a powerful incentive to maintain the conflict in Syria as long as possible, something Obama seems to be doing his best to do, by recently lifting restrictions on advanced weapons systems to the Syrian rebels. Here are the details from Perier's article: http://russia-insider.com/en/politics/busted-us-sent-isis-15-billion-weapons-europe-ukraine/ri18298 See More

Looks like this Committee is Bought and Payed for by corporate lobbyists it is going to try to hurt the public again in ...one of its Hearings (SubCommTech to Review Telephone Consumer Protection Act NEXT WEEK). What part of do not ROBOCALL us (the public) does Congress not understand! Leave the TCPA alone!! The only ones that hate the TCPA are the ones that violate it the most (the bad actors like scammers and debt collectors!!) Also Congress weakened the TCPA with the 2015 Budget Act with exemptions to the TCPA affecting millions of people was that not enough!! Stop hurting the American Public! If Congress REALLY wants to protect consumers leave the 1991 TCPA alone and Ban the 1925 Arbitration Act out of consumer contracts that Act is outdated not the TCPA and vote YES to the Hang up Act S.2235!!! To all it concerns,

You guys sound like geniuses. You play let's make a deal except the citizens lose every time....

If the state is going to make a commitment to a company, how can you not require a commitment back?

I can't believe all the states in this country are so willing to cut their own nuts off along with their neighbors. Don't attempt to try and regrow those nuts, they'll just get chopped off again.

    Twilight Zone....

I'm so dumbfounded by how you (all states chamber of commerce, state legislatures) just let these greedy corporations off the hook.

It's one thing to give breaks to a company that will actually be around well past the time the incentives expire. It's entirely different when there's no consequence for bailing every time another chamber makes the next most ridiculous incentive program.

Completely obsurd. If I were to continually fail so badly, I'd expect to be replaced.

How hard is it collaborate with fellow states chambers? When you act like rivals instead of a team, then you will continue to lose.

It's really not that hard. Set national standards and limitations across the board.

Think of it this way, in the NBA, only the current team a player is on, can offer a max contract. The thing is a player can't just go play some where else while under contract. If the player decides to go elsewhere when they're a free agent then they get less because of the salary restrictions placed on the new team.

In conclusion, the American people advise you to stop short changing us and figure it out!

I gave you a foundation to work with, not just complaining about a problem, also offered a simple, sensible solution.

You can even go a step further and make it so the states with a higher unemployment rate can offer the best allowable incentive program under the "national standards" laws.

Get to drafting please, cuz quite frankly, it's not our job, we can always hire someone else.
