Art Competition

The Annual 3rd District Art Competition

“An Artistic Discovery”

Sponsored by Congressman Ron Kind and Mrs. Tawni Kind

The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school age students throughout the United States and is an effort put forth by the House of Representatives to recognize the tremendous talent of high school art students.

The first place entry from each congressional district is displayed in our nation’s Capitol for one year. Further, the student artist is invited to attend the opening ceremony for the display held in the spring in Washington, D.C.

Winning entries

  • The first place selection for the art competition will be hung in the United States Capitol in one of the walkways leading to the House Office Buildings.
  • The second place entry will be exhibited in my Washington, D.C. office, and the third and fourth place winners will hang in my La Crosse and Eau Claire offices.

Local Exhibit

The University of Wisconsin- La Crosse’s Gallery has graciously agreed to host this year’s “An Artistic Discovery” exhibit for the Third Congressional District from March 28-April 16.

On Sunday, April 10, 2016 at 1:00 p.m  there will be a reception at the University Gallery to recognize the participants. There will be an award ceremony at 1:30 p.m. to announce the winning entries. All student participants, their families and teachers are invited to attend the reception.

How to Participate

The deadline for submitting entries is 5:00 on Friday, March 4, 2016

Entries may be dropped off at either my La Crosse or Eau Claire district office. Entries may also be mailed to my district offices.

Contest Guidelines

  • The competition is open to high school students only.
  • The entry must be an original concept.
  • The entry may not reproduce an image from another person’s work in the same or any other medium.
  • Artwork must be two dimensional- no masks, sculptures, etc, - and from one of the following categories:
    • Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.
    • Drawings
    • Collages
    • Prints: lithographs, silk screens, monotypes, reliefs, and intaglios
    • Photography
    • Computer graphics

The artwork may not be larger than 28 inches by 28 inches when framed.

The reason for the size limitation is to ensure adequate exhibition space. Artwork cannot weigh more than 15 pounds when framed. The work may not infringe on the rights of any third party. The work may not violate the U.S. Copyright Laws.
