Thank you to our Eighth District law enforcement for keeping our communities safe! #SupportBlue #TaketheLEAD2017 #ThankACop #lawenforcementappreciationday
Attention Middle and South Georgia: Several counties in Georgia's Eighth Congressional District are under a State of Emergency. Please stay off the roads and be safe this weekend!!
The House is hitting the ground running to hold the executive branch accountable for expensive rules and regulations. Tonight, the House passed the REINS Act- legislation that requires approval by the people's representatives for major, expensive rules and regulations coming out of the federal government. #REINSAct Read more here: http://bit.ly/2jgDViW
For a break in political news, thought you'd like to read this lighthearted (and hilarious) story from the Oconee County Georgia Sheriff's Office, just north of our district. Glad they saved the llama! Will post later today about legislation on the floor this week- stay tuned.
Based upon the number of media outlets that are calling about the llama, I can only surmise that President-Elect Trump must not have tweeted anything today; so,... now they are scrambling for a story.
Rather than try to respond to each one, here's a statement:
"Around 4:00PM, dispatch notified me that someone had reported 'a baby camel running loose in Epps Bridge Road'. Our deputies are not trained in South American camelid identification, but they quickly determined that the animal in question was actually a llama.
Deputies, with the assistance of, and I kid you not, several llama experts who just happened to be traveling on Epps Bridge Road at that exact moment, managed to corral the llama in the dumpster area behind the Cook Out. We would also like to thank the good folks at Cook Out for providing a bag of carrots to help lure the llama into the dumpster area.
Contact was made with the llama's owner (thanks to new County Commission Chairman John Daniell who had his phone number), and the owner's son came to the scene with a van and hauled the llama home. The llama belongs to a resident of Oconee County. We do not know at this time whether it just wanted to go for a stroll or if it was concerned about the weather forecast this weekend and was attempting to buy bread and milk. I asked, but it refused to answer questions. Perhaps this is because I don't speak Spanish nor any of the native Peruvian languages.
We would like to thank the folks at Southeast Llama Rescue who were on the way to get the llama prior to our locating its owner." --Chief Deputy Lee Weems

BREAKING NEWS: House Republicans introduce Obamacare repeal and replace legislation.
Last Congress, I was honored to co-chair a task force that authored the American Health Care Reform Act (AHCRA). Today, we re-introduced the AHCRA which fully repeals and replaces Obamacare. I hope this legislation will serve as the baseline for discussions on how to repeal and replace Obamacare, bring about debate on how to lower health care costs, and allow for input from both sides of the aisle- something Obamacare did not do.
This week, 229 years ago, Georgia joined the Union. SHARE and LIKE this post if you love our great state!

Happy my wife and daughter could be here for my swearing in (missing my son though)! I am honored to represent Georgia's Eighth Congressional District in the 115th Congress and remain committed to working hard for the people of Middle and South Georgia. Thought I'd share a few pictures from our day.
Quite a lot has happened in 2016! Looking forward to working for you in 2017 and continuing to represent Middle and South Georgia in the 115th Congress.
Rep. Austin Scott shared Moody Air Force Base's video.
The US Air Force Academy's football team will be wearing some pretty cool helmets (modeled after the Flying Tigers) during their bowl game today at 3:30pm. Here the helmets are at Moody Air Force Base. Go Air Force!
Get ready to cheer on the U.S. Academy Falcons as they sport helmets featuring the teeth of the world famous Flying Tigers during the Arizona Bowl tomorrow. Her...e's a glimpse of the helmets around Moody!

Vivien and I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and blessed Holiday season. Today, I hope you will join me in remembering those serving abroad right now and say a special THANK YOU to our troops.
There's a lot of uncertainty around the world, but one thing is clear: we must protect Americans. Hear what else I have to say regarding domestic terrorism.
Congratulations to Colquitt County High School Future Farmers of America member, Tyler, for winning a recent Career Development Event Competition! He now heads to the state level to compete. FFA is not only making a positive difference in the lives of Eighth District students, but it is also preparing the farmers of the future. As the average age of farmers is drastically increasing at the same time as population growth is requiring more food, so too does the need to engage young Americans not only in the agriculture industry, but also in the science and technology industries as innovators in agriculture science to help us produce more with less.
Had the honor of attending this groundbreaking- thank you for your service, Sgt. Turner.
โIโm so happy youโre going to be calling Tifton home. Youโre going to love this place, and this place is going to love you.โ
