Congressman Mike Quigley

Representing the 5th District of Illinois

About IL-05

Illinois’ fifth congressional district is a historic, diverse, and beautiful area that encompasses much of the northern Chicagoland area. In addition to being home to many of Chicago’s vibrant neighborhoods, the fifth district claims several villages and townships to the north and west of the city.

Among the numerous notable sites in Chicago, the fifth district includes Wrigley Field, home to Congressman Quigley’s favorite baseball team, the Chicago Cubs. The district maximizes green space through its great parks and woods, such as Edgebrook Woods, Peterson Park, Schiller Woods, Warren Park, and so much more. It also includes Lincoln Park Zoo, a free, fun, and educational experience for all members of the family to enjoy.

The district is also proud to include many distinguished theaters, museums, comedy clubs, and concert halls. Some of the renowned venues include Second City Comedy Club, Steppenwolf Theater, Chicago History Museum, Music Box Theater, and Allstate Arena.

Visitors and residents can fly into the Midwest’s transportation hub located right in the fifth district, O’Hare Airport. It’s simple to get around with easy access to Chicago Transit Authority’s L-train and busses. Named Bicycling Magazine’s second most bike friendly city in the nation in 2014, Chicago has Divvy bikes, the bike sharing system available to explore local attractions using the miles of bike lanes, paths, and trails.

The district is home to over 62,000 students in college or graduate school and includes many institutions of higher learning such as DePaul University, North Park University, Northeastern Illinois University, Loyola University Chicago, as well as several community colleges. The district has over 100,000 students over the age of three enrolled in school.

The fifth district is a melting pot that celebrates ethnic, religious, and cultural diversity. Our district population is approximately 16 percent German, 15 percent Irish, 14 percent Polish, 12 percent Mexican, and 10 percent Italian, among many other groups that reside here. Explore our district’s wide array of cultures by visiting the many heritage centers, cultural museums, ethnic restaurants, or by attending summer festivals and parades.

Congressman Mike Quigley is honored to serve this great district and its 700,000 diverse residents.
