U.S. Rep Terri Sewell, D-Birmingham, wrote a letter to House leaders on Tuesday urging them to adopt stronger protections for the steel industry as the House is expected to consider trade legislation impacting a proposed trade deal between the U.S. and 11 other Pacific Rim nations later this week. The congresswoman said the protections are contingent on whether she will vote in favor of the potential agreement and related legislation that gives the president fast-track authority to approve trade deals.

(Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama blasted Republican budget plans as a give-away to the wealthy and highlighted new regulations on payday loans as one of the ways his administration is trying to protect middle-income Americans.

 

As the Senate was voting on a fiscal 2016 spending plan in Washington, Obama told an audience in Birmingham, Alabama, on Thursday that Republicans, who control both chambers of Congress, are proposing budgets that are “full of tax cuts for folks at the top.”
