WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) today was appointed by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi to lead the Democracy Reform Task Force, which will advance the “By the People” Legislative Package – a plan to repair our democracy and return us to a government of, by and for the people. In that vein, the Task Force will also work to confront the Trump Administration’s conflicts of interest and ethical lapses and expose the G.O.P.’s special-interest agenda.

“Congressman John Sarbanes’s bold, energetic leadership is a tremendous asset in House Democrats’ efforts to ensure the American people’s interests are the Congress’ first priority,” House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said. “As the chair of the Democracy Reform Task Force, Congressman Sarbanes will be a relentless champion fighting for the integrity and transparency that hard-working American families expect from our elected officials.”

“The American people expect their elected officials to put the public’s interest ahead of special interests,” said Congressman Sarbanes. “Unfortunately, President-elect Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress are poised to pursue an agenda that benefits the wealthy donors and corporate interests, while testing the long-established norms and laws for preventing public corruption. House Democrats will fight back. The Democracy Reform Task Force will call out the Trump Administration’s conflicts of interest and expose the Republican special-interest agenda, while simultaneously advancing a positive vision for improving accountability in our democracy.”
