Reed Brings Strong Voice for Upstate New York and Rural America to Steering Committee

As the 115th Congress begins, Tom Reed is using his influence to change the way Washington operates.  “We care about being a champion for the hardworking men and women of our region. That’s why after our time spent in Congress we are in a unique position of influence that will benefit them now and in the future,” said Reed. “It’s only right that we remember those who sent us here, and use our new influence to be a positive voice for small town America to disrupt Washington and change the way DC operates. “

Reed was recently elected by his peers to the House Steering Committee, a select group which assigns other members to committee positions throughout the House of Representatives. “The Southern Tier and Western New York are in a great position to move forward given the strategic committee positions our members.  It creates a great opportunity to do what we can to change how Washington works to get our economy moving again,” said Reed.

Reed noted his influence on the Steering committee helped secure an appointment to Financial Services committee for freshman member, Claudia Tenney (NY-22), a former New York State Assemblywoman, known for her outsider nature. “We are bringing positive disruptive change to Washington and shake up the system for the better. Claudia’s appointment is part of that process and we look forward to working with her.”

“We aren’t waiting but proactively using our voice on the Steering Committee. We are changing Washington, both within our party and in Congress, and working the Trump administration to get things done,” Reed concluded. “It’s about using our influence to change Washington to make lives better for all Americans.”
