With my support, the House recently passed the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act.
This vote was part of our continued efforts to check reckless government regulations. The message is clear: regulations kill jobs. We care about protecting our small businesses, working families, and farmers and we know these regulations often have negative and unintended consequences on these groups. It is only right that we put a stop to these harmful, overreaching, and politically-motivated actions by the executive branch.
Last night, the House passed three important pieces of legislation to protect access to health care:
H.R. 304, Protecting Patient Access to Emergency Medications Act, ensures that paramedics and emergency medical services (EMS) professionals are able to administer controlled substances, such as pain narcotics and anti-seizure medications, when authorized by state law.
H.R. 309, National Clinical Care Commission Act, establishes a clinical care commission to evaluate and reco...mmend solutions regarding better coordinating federal programs related to complex metabolic or autoimmune disorders.
H.R. 315, Improving Access to Maternity Care Act, requires the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to collect data to better place maternity health care professionals in existing primary care shortage areas.
Today is Law Enforcement Appreciation Day!
Please join me in thanking the countless men and women in uniform who serve our neighbors and keep our communities safe.
This afternoon, Congress certified the results of the presidential election. Donald Trump will officially become the 45th President of the United States.
I am proud to vote in support of H.Res. 11, to Reject the Anti-Israel U.N. Resolution.
The failure to veto U.N. Security Council Resolution 2334 was the capstone of President Obama's failed foreign policies, which have placated our enemies, betrayed our allies, and made our world more dangerous.
We must undo the damage inflicted by the U.N. Resolution for the sake of stability in the Middle East. We look forward to working with the Trump administration to fortify Americaโs relationship with Israel very soon.

This morning, Members will read aloud the U.S. Constitution on the floor of the House of Representatives.
It is fitting that we begin the 115th Congress by reading the Constitution and reaffirming our commitment to the principles of individual liberty and limited government.

With my support, the House passed the Midnight Rules Relief Act.
This bill authorizes Congress to overturn executive branch regulations that are finalized during the last 60 legislative days of an outgoing Presidential administration.
Presidents of both parties routinely enact last-minute regulations, with little oversight, during their final days in office. This bill establishes a method for a new Congress to undo abusive, costly, and burdensome "midnight rules."
It was an honor to take the oath of office and be sworn-in for the 115th Congress. We look forward to serving you and fighting for your priorities during this new session of Congress. #NY23
We appreciate the dozens of phone calls that we received today regarding the proposed changes to the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE). Here is our statement:
"We care about upholding the spirit of the congressional ethics laws. That is why we opposed the changes to the House rules that would have modified the Office of Congressional Ethics.
"It is important to recognize that the OCE has not been reformed since its inception in 2008 and there are specific issues that warr...ant further review. However, these proposed changes went too far. That is why we stood against the changes when they were discussed by the Republican conference. Going forward, we believe the right path is to ensure the independence of the OCE - the body charged with congressional oversight."
NOTE: the provision that would have modified the OCE was withdrawn and did not receive a vote on the House floor.
Having served on the Committee on Ways and Means under Paul Ryan and witnessing the results of his leadership over the past year, we are encouraged by his reelection as Speaker of the House for the 115th Congress.
We look forward to partnering with Speaker Paul Ryan to solve the critical issues facing our region, state, and country. With his leadership, we will pursue an ambitious agenda that includes getting our economy back on track, enacting comprehensive tax reform, and ensuring access to quality, affordable health care in local communities.
As we begin the 115th Congress, we are committed to fighting for your priorities and developing policy solutions to address the critical issues facing our region, state, and country.
It's Opening Day of the 115th Congressโa rainy day in Washington, but a bright day for America. ๐บ๐ธ
