Capito Announces New Committee Assignments for 115th Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today received Senate committee assignments for the 115th Congress. She will continue to serve on the U.S. Senate Committees on Appropriations, Environment and Public Works, and Rules and Administration. She has also added the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation to her portfolio.

“From repealing burdensome EPA regulations to advancing critical infrastructure and broadband access, these committee assignments place me in a strong position to continue fighting for West Virginia in the Senate. I am honored to join the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, where I will have a more powerful voice on telecom issues, and I am very glad to continue having an influence over our nation’s spending priorities on the Appropriations Committee,” said Senator Capito.

U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation
The Commerce Committee has some of the broadest jurisdiction in the Senate and oversees many issues that are critical to West Virginia, most notably broadband. The Commerce Committee oversees both the Federal Communications Commission and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration. This committee assignment will allow Senator Capito to continue advocating for improved broadband access in West Virginia.

U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations
As a member of the Appropriations Committee, Senator Capito works to ensure West Virginia’s priorities are considered when our nation’s spending decisions are determined. As Chairman of the Appropriations Committee’s Legislative Branch Subcommittee during the 114th Congress, Senator Capito led the subcommittee responsible for funding the United States Congress and Capitol complex. For the past two years, she was the only freshman Senator to chair an Appropriations subcommittee in the 114th Congress, putting her in a strong position to advocate for West Virginia. She is expected to continue to lead an Appropriations subcommittee in the 115th Congress.

U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works
As a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), Senator Capito advocates for policies that protect vital West Virginia energy and manufacturing jobs and encourage investment in West Virginia’s highway infrastructure. The EPW Committee has primary jurisdiction over EPA regulations that have targeted West Virginia energy production. As a leader on the EPW Committee, Senator Capito is committed to reining in overreaching EPA regulations and protecting affordable, reliable energy.

U.S. Senate Committee on Rules and Administration
The Committee on Rules and Administration oversees the internal management of the Senate and legislative branch agencies, including the Library of Congress, and is responsible for legislation establishing federal election laws.
