Enter the Congressional App Challenge

It is my pleasure to invite all high school students from Idaho’s First Congressional District to participate in the Third Annual Congressional App Challenge.

The competition was established by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives in 2013 as a nationwide event to engage students’ creativity and encourage their participation in STEM fields. This competition allows students to compete with peers in the same Congressional district by creating and exhibiting their software application, or “app”, for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice.

The competition will be open for submissions between 10:00AM Mountain Daylight Time July 18, 2016, and 9:59AM Mountain Standard Time November 2, 2016.

Eligibility:

The competition is open to high school students who reside or attend a school in Idaho’s First Congressional District. Students may compete as individuals or in teams of up to four as long as at least half of the individuals on the team reside in our District. To find out if you are in my District, you can search by your zip code here.

The app students create can cover any topic they like, but it must:

  • Be original
  • Be appropriate
  • Have been created within the year before the Challenge closing date.
  • Create a short video demo explaining the app and what they learned through this competition process.

For the final submission, students must:

Judging period:

The apps will be judged by a panel of local judges who work within the academic, software, and entrepreneurial fields. The judges will review the submissions using the following criteria:

  • Creativity
  • Implementation of idea
  • Demonstration of coding

Winner:

The winning student or team’s app in each participating congressional district will be displayed in an exhibit in the U.S. Capitol, and featured on the U.S. House of Representatives’ website.
