In the 114th Congress, Tiberi:
Helped Columbus win the Smart City Challenge: On June 23, 2016, Columbus won the United States Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Smart City Challenge that provides $40 million in federal funds for the city to develop new and innovative transportation solutions. Tiberi was a strong advocate for Columbus throughout the application process and worked with members of the Ohio delegation to show the USDOT that it was the most deserving among the finalists.
Advocated for Delphi retirees to protect their health care coverage: Tiberi joined members of the Ohio delegation to help Delphi salaried retirees receive the benefits they earned and were promised. In 2016, Tiberi was part of a successful effort to ensure the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) renewed Healthcare Tax Credit payments for retirees so they could afford the care they need.
Recommended a Columbus leader to the U.S. Investment Advisory Council: Tiberi led a letter with Columbus-area Representatives Steve Stivers and Joyce Beatty to recommend Columbus2020 Chief Economic Advisor Kenny McDonald for an appointment to the U.S. Investment Advisory Council. McDonald was appointed on June 7, 2016, and now provides advice and input on how best to support U.S. economic growth through the attraction and retention of foreign direct investment. This ensures that the Columbus region has a seat at the table in discussions on increasing investment in the U.S.
Helped Licking County cut through red tape: Tiberi helped the Licking County Planning and Development Department receive the authorization it needed from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to fly its drone and utilize this technology to help the community. Licking County has used this drone for various projects, including planning for the new Cherry Valley Road interchange.
Made the Cherry Valley Road interchange possible: Tiberi helped secure federal dollars to jumpstart the design and engineering of this project in Licking County, and then worked with local elected leaders and state officials to design, fund and build the interchange. The Cherry Valley Road interchange opened in November 2016.
Advocated for Ohio’s military units and installations: Over the last several years, local and state authorities have been partnering to support military installations across Ohio. Tiberi has helped get answers from the Department of Defense (DOD) on how best to advocate for Ohio’s military units and installations. From pursuing aircraft upgrades for the 179th Airlift Wing in Mansfield, to pursuing new missions for the Ohio National Guard, Tiberi has been a leading voice in Ohio’s congressional delegation to protect and grow the missions of hometown units.
Honored local hero: Legislation Tiberi introduced with Senators Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown to designate the VA community-based outpatient clinic in Newark, Ohio as the Daniel L. Kinnard VA Clinic became law on December 16, 2016. Kinnard, from Newark, Ohio, was a medic in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was killed in action rendering aid to his fellow soldiers on March 9, 1968.
Nominated students to the U.S. Military Academies: Every year Tiberi nominates high school students to be considered for appointments to four of the U.S. Service Academies. For the class of 2020, Tiberi nominated 29 students from Ohio’s 12th Congressional District for consideration.
Secured funding for flood prevention in Marion County: Tiberi worked with state officials and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to secure funding to study flooding and flood prevention in Marion County and the surrounding areas. Over the last several years, regular flooding has impeded commerce and destroyed property. Through this new study, plans are being developed to help protect property owners.
Redesigned Tiberi.House.Gov: On November 14, 2016, the new Tiberi.House.Gov launched to provide better constituent services in Ohio’s 12th District. In a launch video, Tiberi said his new website was designed with constituents in mind and for his office to be more accessible and available to hear their concerns and to take action on their behalf.
