Congresswoman Ann Wagner

Representing the 2nd District of Missouri

Budget and Spending

Budgeting is the most basic responsibility of any institution, whether it is for a family, a business, or government.  This has never been more true than today, as our nation’s finances are in a grave state.  Since 2008, our national debt has grown by $6 trillion to a once-unthinkable level of $16 trillion, making every man, woman, and child in our country responsible for over $50,000 of our national debt.  This is a crisis that threatens the prosperity and opportunity for future generations of Americans.

Washington does not have a taxing problem, Washington has a spending problem.  We are never going to be able to tax, borrow, and spend our way to economic prosperity.  One of my top priorities as the representative for Missouri’s 2nd Congressional district will be to rein in Washington spending so that our children and grandchildren are not forced to pick up the tab for Washington’s spending binge.

I am eager to work with my colleagues to find a lasting, long term solution for our federal budget that will put an end to out-of-control spending and help secure a hopeful future for coming generations of Americans.
