Fighting for jobs (Oct. 28, 2015): I am fighting to get the job-creating Export-Import Bank renewed – I helped introduced a bill earlier this year, and I led efforts to renew the Bank in 2012. I stand with Planned Parenthood (Oct. 15, 2015): I want to update you on the House majority’s most recent attack against women’s health care. The majority recently voted to take away federal funding from Planned Parenthood (H.R. 3134), while also threatening to shut down the government with that same unacceptable demand. I am deeply frustrated that a shutdown was once again on the table, and that Congress continues to focus its attention on stripping away people’s health care and interfering with women’s ability to make decisions with their doctors. ... Protecting the fundamental right to vote (Aug. 11, 2015): This month marks the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act (VRA), a groundbreaking civil rights law to prohibit racial discrimination in voting. Conserving our lands and waters (Jul. 16, 2015): A critical source of federal funding for land preservation is set to expire at the end of September. The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) has protected open spaces, boosted tourism and enhanced recreation in the Pacific Northwest and nationwide for the last 50 years. ... Building a bridge from classrooms to jobs (May 28, 2015): I recently met with students across Northwest Washington who are gaining valuable skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, commonly known as STEM. At Burlington-Edison High School, students showed me a robot they built that can move and stack items. Middle school students in Arlington are learning about aerodynamics and population growth estimations. And I have heard from high school students from South Whidbey Island who recently competed regionally and internationally on a project involving submarines. ... (Read full newsletter here).

Helping veterans with health care, housing (May 22, 2015): One of my top priorities in Congress is to break down barriers for all people to participate in our economy and our democracy. My vote today to protect workers' rights (Mar. 19, 2015): I wanted to let you know that today I voted to uphold the power of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to streamline the union organizing process. NLRB set new rules in December that are designed to update and ease organizing efforts in the private sector. However, the House of Representatives approved a resolution today to reverse these rules.
