JONES CONTINUES FIGHT FOR AMERICAN WORKERS

WASHINGTON, DC – This week, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) continued his long-standing fight for American businesses and workers.  Yesterday, Jones and Congressman Mike Doyle (PA-14) offered an amendment to a water infrastructure bill (S. 612) that would permanently require all iron and steel products used in projects financed by the U.S. taxpayer-funded Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) to be made in the United States, not China or other foreign nations.  The amendment was defeated in an 3-8 party line vote in the House Rules Committee.  A version of the amendment was then offered as a motion on the House floor, but was defeated again on a vote of 184-236.  The underlying bill – without the Doyle/Jones “Buy American” provision – was subsequently approved and now goes to the Senate for final consideration.  

Not giving up the fight for American workers, Congressman Jones is joining his colleagues Cheri Bustos (IL-8) and Dan Lipinski (IL-3) in introducing a stand-alone bill – H.R. 6460 – similar to the amendment and motion offered earlier this week.

“Americans’ taxpayer dollars should support American-made infrastructure, not Chinese,” said Congressman Jones.  “To me, that’s just common sense.  While I am disappointed that more of my colleagues didn’t support that concept this time, I will continue to do everything I can to fight for the workers and businesses of America.”
