Many famous Americans have called Eastern North Carolina home. Here, we will honor the individuals who have shaped Eastern North Carolinian history and heritage.

Caleb Bradham

Caleb Bradham invented Pepsi-Cola in his New Bern drugstore, the Bradham Drug Company, in 1893. The now-famous beverage was originally called "Brad's Drink."

Ava Gardner

Ava Gardner was born in Smithfield and became one of the most well-known actresses of her time. The American Film Institute has included her in its list of the 25 top female screen legends.

Joseph Hewes

Joseph Hewes was a resident of Edenton when he was elected to represent North Carolina in the Continental Congress. He went on to become the United State's first Secretary of the Navy.

Meadowlark Lemon

Meadowlark Lemon is a Wilmington native who became well-known as the "Clown Prince of Basketball" during his 22 years touring with the Harlem Globetrotters. Meadowlark is now an ordained minister who owns his own comedic basketball team, Meadowlark Lemon's Harlem All Stars.
