Yolo County

Congressman Garamendi is proud to represent Yolo County, which is one of California’s original counties, established in 1850 at the time of statehood. The name Yolo has its roots in the Native American word “Yoloy,” which means “place of the rushes.” Yolo County is home to a large agricultural industry, and to the internationally distinguished University of California, Davis. The agriculture industry is based on a large variety of crops, including tomato processing, rice, wine grapes, hay, walnuts, and organic production.

Yolo County is an important transportation corridor with multiple bus systems, an Amtrak station, four airports, three major interstate highways and five state routes crossing through the county.
