Internships

All internships run throughout the fall, spring, or summer semesters for college students. Although all internships in my offices are unpaid, students gain invaluable experience in public service. The hours are flexible to accommodate students' course schedules, but generally run 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. when Congress is either in or out of session.

Deadlines to apply:

  • Spring internships: November 10
  • Summer internships: February 28
  • Fall internships: August 1

Washington, D.C. Legislative Internship

As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office. Internship candidates should be prepared to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.

Washington, D.C. Communications Internship

Communications interns work in DC alongside our communications team. Primary responsibilities include: create social media content and graphics; draft press releases and talking points; plan and execute DC and San Diego press events; cut and edit videos; organize and track photos; compile press clips and track coverage.

Candidates must have strong writing and social media skills and demonstrate sound political instincts. Please include social media/ graphic samples in submission form.

San Diego District Office Internship

In my San Diego district office, interns may be asked to do a variety of things, including day-to-day office work such as answering phones, writing letters, and responding to constituent inquiries.  Interns may also assist with constituent casework and District-based projects of importance, with plenty of opportunities for community outreach and engagement.
