Marchant Votes for REINs Act; to disavow UN Anti-Israel Vote

WASHINGTON, DC – January 5, 2017: U.S. Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) issued the following statement after voting for H.R. 26, the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act (REINS), and H. Res. 11 – Objecting to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 as an obstacle to Israeli-Palestinian peace:

The 115th Congress has opened with conviction,” said Marchant. “In the spirit of unified government, we are getting to work and undoing the mistakes of the Obama Administration. The REINS Act and H. Res. 11 accomplish that. “

“The REINs Act will help restore the balance of power the American people voted for in November, giving Congress the opportunity to stop burdensome administrative rules. In 2016 alone, the Obama Administration broke records by printing 97,110 pages, and issuing 3,853 rules and regulations in the Federal Register. Under the REINS Act, Congress would have 70 legislative days to approve a major rule with an economic impact over $100 million. This is a much-needed check on Washington bureaucrats and would prevent the current and future administrations from hemorrhaging new rules before the president leaves office.”

“What President Obama’s Administration accomplished by abstaining from the abhorrent Anti-Israel UN vote was nothing but attempt to delegitimize the democratic State of Israel. The Administration should have vetoed this resolution – and in light of that, the House passed with my support a Resolution to Object to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 as an obstacle to Israeli-Palestinian peace. Israel remains our strongest ally in the Middle-East and across the globe; reversing course on decades of established foreign policy was unwarranted and irresponsible.”
