Jobs and Economic Growth

 Small Businesses

Small Businesses are the engine of innovation and job creation in the United States.  Approximately 4 out of 5 new jobs are created by small businesses and many of our nation’s largest and most respected companies started their origins as small businesses, sometimes in someone’s garage.

However, small businesses encounter challenges not faced by larger businesses.  These include accessing capital to build or expand their business to hire more workers, contending with government regulations that impose disproportionate administrative burdens on small businesses compared to larger businesses, among others.

Promoting and protecting these businesses from unduly burdensome government requirements and unfair competition from large businesses is a priority of mine.  As a member of the House Committee on Small Business, I will continue to work with my colleagues on policies that level the playing field for small business job creators.

My Efforts to Promote and Protect Small Businesses

  1. Led successful effort to protect local jobs and small business from big business special interests [link BND Bellevue Boot Co. Article];

  2. Cosponsored and Voted for legislation to repeal job killing mandate on small businesses;

  3. Cosponsored legislation to eliminate new taxes on worker’s health insurance premiums;

  4. Voted for legislation to extend access to working capital for small businesses [7A loan bill];
