I have an Academy Selection Committee comprised of esteemed, volunteer community leaders who interview nominees and then make their recommendations.  After October 14 and before Thanksgiving, candidates with completed applications will be interviewed by a member of my Committee.  Evaluations will be based on academic record; extracurricular and athletic activities; physical aptitude; ACT and SAT scores; leadership ability; medical qualifications; and motivation.  For each academy vacancy, one candidate will be nominated as my principal nominee, which guarantees an offer of appointment if he/she meets all criteria for admission.  Based on the recommendations of my Committee, I will also name competing alternates for admission who will compete for the vacancy as determined by the service academy.
