Issues

Below are only a few of the federal issues that I am working on for Texans. By visiting my homepage, and viewing my latest news, Facebook, Twitter or videos, you can learn more about my efforts.

Education and Youth

Outstanding student loans now total more than $1.2 trillion, surpassing even total credit card debt. Between 2004 and 2012, the average Texas student debt balance grew by 61%. The ability to afford a college degree is in jeopardy for too many. Public education is a right earned by hard work, not a privilege reserved for a lucky few.

Growing Our Economy

I support efforts to bolster small businesses and local manufacturers to help grow our economy.

Healthcare

I am committed to preserving hard-fought for reforms to our health system.

Immigration Reform

Instead of building walls, we must build bridges. Passing comprehensive immigration reform will grow the Texas economy—it will mean more small business startups and more graduating students. I stand with our DREAMers, many of whom know America as their only home.

LGBTQ Equality

I will continue to stand up for equal rights and equal respect for all Americans. My efforts are reflected in the Equality Texas “Spirit of Texas” Lifetime Achievement Award for my work fighting for equality and against discrimination.

Protecting Access to the Ballot Box

Whether you are an elderly member of our community, serving in our armed forces overseas, or a young university student whose personal documents are not with them at college, I firmly believe that all citizens should have equal access to the ballot box.

Protecting Our Planet

We cannot keep ignoring the critical challenges facing Texas, our country, and our planet. Encouraging the expansion of renewable energy is vital for protecting our world, strengthening our national security, and boosting the economy.

Veterans

So many veterans have planned their lives around the benefits promised to them as service members and they should not be forced to bear the burden of balancing our Nation's budget on their backs. We cannot afford to break our promises of retirement and health security they earned. Our obligation to those who served abroad does not end when they return home.
